Little Nemo Brainstorming Podcast #24: AKA The Metroid Dread Episode
about 3 years ago
– Thu, Nov 04, 2021 at 02:38:49 PM
Hey Dreamers, Adrian here!
As the title mentions, this week's episode was inspired by Chris and I's recently playthrough of Metroid Dread. Specifically, it got me thinking about how we should approach hiding, and challenging players who search for extra content in the game. For us, this includes things that enhance your abilities such as health upgrades or recipes for the kitchen to optional content such as comics that you find to add to the in-game gallery. Metroid Dread's hidden pick ups are all character upgrades and many are hidden behind optional challenges that test your dexterity such as the infamous shinespark puzzles, so we ask; what kinds of challenges should our hidden items be? Should they be completely based around exploration and observation, or should some of them test other skills such as the aforementioned dexterity? Or do we mix and match depending on the type of item that it is? Here our thoughts in the new episode! And in case it wasn't obvious, spoilers for Metroid Dread abound in this episode.
Of course there's also plenty of talk about our general feelings about Dread (spoilers: we liked it) and what we took from the over all experience. We had a lot of fun recording this one and I hope you have as much fun listening! Be sure to let us know what you think in the comments or on Discord!

Little Nemo Brainstorming Podcast #23: We're back!
– Thu, Oct 28, 2021 at 08:40:41 AM
Hey Dreamers! Adrian here.
After our brief hiatus, we're back with our newest episode of the brainstorming podcast! Our main focus for this episode is on how we plan to keep players from getting lost when exploring our non-linear levels and how to know where to go when they return to earlier levels. This is an issue many modern exploratory platformers and Metroidvanias struggle with and something we're thinking about very hard about.
Thank you all for your patience. We're so excited to be back and have a lot of plans for future episodes. As always, let us know what you think in the discord, and let us know if there's anything about the game you want know about and would like to hear us discuss!
Until next time Dreamers,

Night Sky demo level video preview

Hello dear backers!
As many of you know, some of our team members just finished major moves in the past few weeks, so we've been unable to do our podcast and development streams as regularly. Because of this, we wanted to make sure we sent out something to keep everyone updated on the game!
A few weeks ago, we showed off the game at GDEX/Origins Game Fair in Columbus, OH. Some of you in the area came by to say hello (thank you!) and the game was a huge hit with attendees! For that show, we prepared a demo of the Night Sky level where you could try out Nemo's glide ability.
We wanted to make sure that all of our backers got a preview of the level, so we put together a quick video from the Origins demo. We hope you enjoy it and stay tuned for updates as we polish this level up and finalize its features, as well as continue to develop the overall game.
(PLEASE NOTE: this video shows the game in a non-final state, so many elements of it are subject to change!)
